"That's not a puppy!"

For Easter, we went to Ferriday on Thursday night and spent the day Friday with my family. On Friday, we went to lunch with my mom and mammaw at the Sandbar (our favorite seafood restaurant in Vidalia). Kailey was sitting beside mammaw, so when the food got there, mammaw was helping her out with her food. Mammaw explained that the round things were hush puppies, and Kailey with a look of shock exclaimed, "That's not a puppy! That's chicken." I had never thought about how confusing the name hush puppy could be for a 2 year old.

  1. Sandbar=yum
    hush puppies...too funny.
you know, they call them hush puppies (as i was told by somebody or read in a book) b/c when the slaves would escape, they would send dogs to sniff them out. the escaping slaves would throw balls of cornbread mush at the dogs and whisper "hush puppy, hush!"
i promise i am not making this up, i read it somewhere...

  2. btw, i never ate at the Sandbar until 2005 or 2006!

  3. i've only ate at the sandbar once. that was for jana terrell's wedding. i have also heard that about the hush puppies. if two people heard it, it must be true right?

  4. So...where's your picture?! J/K! I love hush puppies but I haven't had them in quite a while! Where's this Sandbar place? I'm always on the look out for good eats!
