iPhone death

Saturday afternoon, while I was on the phone (house phone) with my parents, Eli grabbed my phone off of the bed and took off with it. I was so involved in my conversation with my parents that I didn't really pay attention to Eli leaving the room with my phone. Well a few minutes later, I heard Kailey yelling that she needed to use the potty. After I got off of the phone, I went through the house searching for my phone. I found it in the bathroom a little water logged. I quickly tried to resusitate it by drying and shaking water out of it. I brought it to Joel to see what he could do, he shook it even harder and got more water out of. I frantically searched online for hope that there might be some way to revive my sweet little phone. I found a few sites that recommended putting it in a container with a desiccant. So I set off for Lowe's and picked up some damp rid, and it sits in the container still. I have tried it a few times, but there are no signs of life. Joel did find a video tonight that suggested that when iPhone's are dropped into water, the battery is often destroyed because the batteries inside these are not covered in metal like most other cell phone batteries. So there are a few other things to try, but for now it is just hanging out with the damp rid. (Joe I know you are cringing at my lack of photo editing skills, sorry).

  1. Jackson just turned into a flusher. We have to keep tabs on him all the time. Sorry it had to be your phone though!

  2. Boy! those little ones can be little busy bees. That is so sad about the phone. I love the way you posted about it with the pictures.

  3. I'm sorry to hear about your phone. Jezebel hasn't dropped mine in the toilet yet....but it has been nonfunctional due to an excessive amount of baby drool several times. Babies just love cell phones for some reason.

I hope you have a great day...and I hope your phone sees better days. Oh, and you have mad photo editing skills. :)

  4. That sucks! I've heard sticking it in rice helps absorb the extra water. It helped save Jeni's phone after a whole pitcher of water got dumped on it. I hope you can get a cooler, better phone to replace it (did you have cell phone insurance?!). Good luck with the next one!

  5. Wow I thought my phone death on New Years eve was bad. It was a free phone though. It dropped out of my lap when I got out of the car and fell in the garage. Not to be discovered until hours later on New Years Day after it had been ran over. I still don't have all my numbers. I'm so sad for your loss. I hope it comes back to life. Markus will never get another phone if he breaks his IPhone. Just for the record... he's very bad with those things.

  6. I like your pictures, too. When Allison saw the picture of Eli, she said, "that's the chunky boy." It was pretty funny.

  7. So sorry it happened to you! Many a cell phone has found it's death in the toilet in my house too...luckily Owen has finally grown out of his "toilet fascination" stage.

But, chances are if you take the whole thing completely apart, let everything dry out, and replace the battery, it might come back to life. Good luck!

BTW, I would love to send you an invite to my blog. If you can, send me your e-mail address to retrobec(at)gmail.com. Thanks!

  8. Yeah, I've heard that wet phones can be revived by simply replacing the battery. Don't know though, I've never actually had to try (not yet anyway) Although some might cringe at the photo editing skills, I am thoroughly impressed. I am disappointed in my lack of knowledge in this area, especially considering that it's Josh's field of expertise. I guess I need to get some lessons or something. Wanna tutor me??

  9. my father in law and I went water skiing in Idaho. He skiied his whole turn, climbed back onto his boat and felt inside his pocket. His BRAND new ( mean like a week old) camera was inside. (it was a little camera). WITHOUT turning it on, he took it apart to let the components dry. They say that's the key...NOT turning it on. He air dried it for a few days and when it was completely dry, he put it back together and turned it on. It worked! In fact, the video and pictures you see on my blog are from that camera. He gave it to us (a year later) when ours was stolen. He did go back to Circuit City to buy the warranty just in case it stopped working after a while, but its been going strong now for a year and a half.
